This explains what Badger Junk Cars collects when you ask us for a quote or sell us a vehicle, what we do with it, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past — if anything here isn’t clear, call us and ask.

The short version

  • We collect what we need to price your car and come and get it — your name, a phone number, and the details of the vehicle. That’s the bulk of it.
  • We don’t sell your information, and we don’t hand your phone number to anyone else to market to you.
  • Nobody at Badger ever needs your bank details. Money moves toward you in this transaction, not away from you — section 1 lists everything we never ask for, and why a request for any of it means you are not talking to us.

01What we collect

What you tell us

When you call, fill in a form, or send us a message, we take down what we need to quote the vehicle and schedule a pickup:

  • Your name and a phone number, and an email address if you give one
  • The vehicle: year, make, model, condition, and the VIN if you can reach it
  • Whether the title is in hand, and whose name it is in
  • Where the vehicle is — the address, and often where on the property it is sitting
  • Anything else you choose to put in a message

Some of our quote forms ask an extra question or two, such as where the vehicle is parked. That exists so the right truck and the right equipment get sent, and it is used for nothing else.

What the website records on its own

Like most websites, ours logs standard technical information when you visit: an IP address, the browser and device you are using, which pages you looked at, and which site you arrived from. This comes through cookies and similar technologies — see section 6.

What we never ask for

A Social Security number. A bank account or routing number. A credit or debit card. A copy of your title emailed in advance. You are being paid at the curb in cash, so none of that is ever needed, and a request for any of it is a sign that you are not talking to us.

02How we use it

Only for running the job and running the business:

  • Working out what your vehicle is worth and getting the figure back to you
  • Reaching you about that quote, and arranging a pickup window
  • Completing the sale and the vehicle transfer paperwork
  • Answering questions and sorting out anything that goes wrong
  • Keeping the website working and making it better
  • Meeting our legal, tax and recordkeeping obligations

We do not build marketing profiles from what you tell us, and a quote request does not put you on a mailing list.

03Phone calls and texts

Giving us your phone number means we can reach you about your vehicle — that is the whole point of it, and it is how nearly every quote gets delivered. We contact you about the quote you asked for and the pickup you booked. We do not cold-call people who never contacted us, and we do not pass your number to anyone else to market to you.

About text messages

By giving us your number you agree that we may text you about your quote and your pickup. Message and data rates may apply, and message frequency varies with what is happening on your job.

Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts, or HELP for help. Stopping texts does not change the offer on your vehicle and does not stop us calling you about a pickup you have booked.

If you would rather we stopped contacting you entirely, say so on any call or send us a message and we will stop.

03Phone calls

Giving us your phone number means we can call you back about your vehicle — that is the whole point of it, and it is how nearly every quote gets delivered. We call about the quote you asked for and the pickup you booked. We do not cold-call people who never contacted us, and we do not pass your number to anyone else to call you.

If you would rather we stopped calling, say so on any call or send us a message and we will stop. That will not change the offer on your vehicle.

04Things left in the vehicle

This one is worth reading properly, because it is the part of selling a scrap car that catches people out.

Empty the vehicle before the flatbed arrives. The glovebox, the center console, under the seats, the trunk, the visors, and the door pockets. Old registrations, insurance cards, mail, receipts, garage remotes and phone chargers all live in those places, and an old registration or an unopened letter carries enough personal information to matter.

Once a vehicle leaves your address it moves fairly quickly toward being dismantled and scrapped for metal. We cannot promise that anything left inside can be found and returned once that starts. If you realize something is still in the car, call us the same day and we will do what we can.

Take the plates off too. In Wisconsin they belong to you rather than to the vehicle, and they carry your registration details.

05Who else sees it

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where the work requires it:

  • Drivers and tow operators — the name, number and address needed to reach the vehicle, and nothing more.
  • Recyclers and vehicle processors — where a transfer record has to travel with the vehicle. Limited to what the paperwork actually requires.
  • The people who run our systems — website hosting, form handling, phone service. They handle data on our behalf and are not free to use it for their own purposes.
  • Advertising and analytics providers — see section 6. These see website activity, not your quote details.
  • Where the law requires it — a court order, a subpoena, a legitimate request from the authorities, or where it is needed to protect someone’s safety or our rights.
  • If the business changes hands — in a sale, merger or transfer of the business, customer records would move with it.

06Cookies and tracking

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working, to understand which pages get used, and to measure whether our advertising is doing anything. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; parts of the site may stop behaving properly if you do.

Browser-level privacy signals are worth knowing about: most browsers let you send a “do not track” or Global Privacy Control signal, and several have tracking protection switched on by default.

07Photographs of vehicles

Drivers sometimes photograph a vehicle at pickup — as a record of its condition when it was collected, which protects both sides if there is ever a disagreement about what was bought.

If we ever want to use a photograph publicly — on the website, in a review, or on a social account — we ask first, and no is a complete answer. Nothing that identifies your address, your plates or the inside of your home goes up without you saying yes to it.

08How long we keep it

Quote enquiries that never turn into a pickup are kept for a short while and then cleared. Records of an actual purchase are kept longer, because vehicle transfer records and tax records have to be retained for a set period. When information is no longer needed for either reason, we delete it or strip out the parts that identify you.

09Keeping it safe

We use sensible administrative, technical and physical measures to protect what we hold, and we keep the amount we hold small on purpose — the less that exists, the less there is to lose. That said, no system is perfectly secure and nobody can honestly promise otherwise.

10Your choices

Whether or not a particular law happens to cover you, our position is the same: ask and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, or delete it — subject only to records we are legally required to keep, such as the transfer record for a vehicle we actually bought.

Ask by phone or in writing using the details below. We will not treat you any differently for asking, and it will not affect an offer on a vehicle.

11Children

This is a business that buys motor vehicles, so it is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you think a child has sent us something, tell us and it will be deleted.

12Changes, and how to reach us

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of the page. Continuing to use the site or our services after that means the updated version applies.
